I have had a constant struggle to try to eat right this summer. Some days are definitely more successful than others. This week, I do seem to have found the knack of healthy eating again. I have surrounded myself with fruits and veggies. I have dinners planned for the week. We currently have six house guests and I have been having a hard time finding time to exercise. I did get out for a hike yesterday and I have been walking the dog, but not much else.
I plan to be more regular about visiting this site. I suppose I will weigh in at some point soon. Honestly, I have been avoiding the scale recently. I need to be honest with myself.

So far this summer, I think I have had only four days when I was neither on vacation or part of someone else's vacation (hosting out of town visitors)!
We returned last night from a fantastic trip to Yellowstone National Park. It is an amazingly beautiful place. We did a lot of walking and hiking, but we also did a lot of sitting in the car, snacking, and eating at restaurants.
For today at least, I ate more like the human I want to be. I made some good choices while I was on the road, but I also did some utterly thoughtless eating. I need to pay more attention, each time I go to put food in my mouth! At one point during the trip, my son insisted we stop at Panda Express, his favorite fast food. I don't mind as I always get the mixed veggies rather than the rice or noodles. As I was eating my meal, I realized that I was eating more vegetables during that lunch than I'd had over the previous few days! Yikes.
We are about halfway through the summer and things really are not slowing down. In two days, I leave for the midwest to visit Mom and the rest of the family. When we get back home, more visitors arrive. I cannot let travels and visitors derail my healthy lifestyle the way I have allowed the past six weeks or so. I need to take much better care of myself during this second half of the summer.

I am apparently on the sun's schedule. For no good reason, I have been popping awake earlier and earlier each morning. My room is not particularly bright. I have no place that I need to be in the early mornings. Not sure what the deal is, but I have been trying to use those early morning hours to work out and take care of myself before the kids roll out of bed.
We have been very busy and tomorrow begins the summer tourist season. Our first house guests of many this summer will arrive. I have planned for several meals at home, but I am sure there will be some restaurant meals as well. I hope to still be able to get some hiking miles in this week and I am sure we will spend time in the pool. I will do my best not to over-indulge in the goodies.

A drop with brownies in the house! I'm in the zone.
This is due in part to my oldest kid being away from home on a school science trip and calling me in the middle of the night in tears because he could not sleep and was homesick. Of course, I scarcely slept after talking to him that night. Thankfully, he was doing much better yesterday when we spoke. That helpless feeling is so hard. No emotional eating though, in fact quite the opposite yesterday. If I can master emotional not-eating, life would be so much easier.
