I have stopped counting calories for over a month now, and while I am not much lighter, I am FAR happier. The vegan thing did not work out, I could not take the daily migraines. However, If I only eat when I am hungry, I generally stay well below my prior calorie limit. I buy healthy food, so its all I have to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner- unless I go out, which costs too much to do often as a student. Occasionally, I have bad weekends like everyone else. I get sick and don't want to cook or the game is on so we order pizza, but its been balancing out.
So what am I going to do to get to my weight loss goal? Now that I am happy in the diet part of my weight loss plan, I need to kick up the exercise portion. I hardly went to the gym at all in undergrad, but when I signed up for a 10k, I finally had a reason to get moving last month. After exercising 1-2x a week for a while, my body is craving the movement. I walked that 10k this weekend and it really inspired me. I realized in 2 hours I walked 6.2 miles, so in less than an hour I can run 3.1! I am signing up for a 5k race every Saturday for the next two months to get my butt out of bed and into a bikini this summer. Supporting my health and a local charity- what could be better?
This weekend is ACS RELAY FOR LIFE- so that's 12.5 laps around the track...

So it took me over a mont to get back on track, but I am finally losing again. I had been hovering between 139 and 136 for a long time, and I was so excited to break the plateau this morning. Which means that after my next paycheck, I have earned a reward :) I have been very good about not spending lately... mostly out of necessity since my car work last week ate quite a bit of my savings. which means the shopping will be THAT much sweeter, and more of a motivation to shed the pounds to my next purchase.

This time of the month always makes me feel fat with all the bloating and such- but I am finally moving back down the scale! I have been sticking to the vegan diet mostly, and worked out for at least 30min everyday since Sunday :) Hopefully I can keep the momentum going!

Gaining 0.2 kg a Week

Day 3 of veganland stinks. I dont know if its just adjusting or a serious lack of substance, but I am getting headaches and too tired to go work out or stay awake past 830pm every night. I get 10 hours of sleep and still wake up tired. today I am bringing an extra 4pm snack of beans and tortilla... hopefully the protein will boost my energy level for tae kwon do.
Update: beans did not stay with me long. I am hungry every hour. And still getting headaches. Luckily Excedrin helped today, and I talked with the vegan girl at work about it. She said she felt horrible for the first few months- but taking an omega 3 supplement helps. And eating peanut butter. I am going to make some vegan protein bars this weekend... hopefully that will help too :)

Lessons learned from day one: vegan is yummy, need a filling afternoon snack, and this diet is a great excuse to leave lab early :) hopefully it wont lead to me staying home rather than going to the gym after dinner!
