Dreaded going to the gym this morning, but I made it and I feel FANTASTIC!

I increased my running speed and really hit a high point.

Although the scale says I've only lost about 5.5 lbs since I started in January, I also see some results in the mirror. My calves are definitely tighter and my legs are leaner. My stomach protrudes a lot less - I don't look quite as bloated as before. My arms are starting to have a tiny bit of definition. I've modified the upper body weight training because of some injuries I'm recovering from. In order not to cause more damage, I do lighter exercises on my arms and shoulders (i.e. bicep curls with very light weights - only 2-3 lbs) - but even this is having an effect (in addition to burning off excess weight in the arms).

Instead of waking up every morning and being disappointed with my reflection, now I feel excited and motivated. I'm really happy that I'm making these positive lifestyle changes.

My boyfriend has been kind of up and down in his support. I made him promise not to say anything discouraging about BFL during my 12 week challenge. For the most part, he's stuck with that promise, except every now and then when he expresses skepticism. At first he felt that it was excessive to work out 5-6 times a week. Now he's given up that argument, since he sees I'm sticking with it. He's also skeptical about the eating plan. He thinks that you don't need a "diet" to stay in shape (which is true -- but I can't seem to get him to understand that BFL is not a "diet"). He also has been very critical of free days -- he doesn't like to see me gorge myself on unhealthy food, and of course on this point, he's partially right - I've definitely gone overboard in the past. At the same time, this is my body and my life, and I earn every calorie I eat on a free day.

I think he's coming from a place of love, but sometimes his comments are discouraging. Does anyone else have to deal with skepticism or discouragement from friends, family or spouses? while on BFL?

My husband is very skeptical of BFL, but I think it's because he has tried and never made it to the end like I have. It's very easy to let others talk you out of making good choices for yourself if you want them to. Hang in there and know this is something good you are doing for yourself. This is something you want. Don't let anyone take that away from you. This is a lifestyle change that is going to affect all aspects of your life. Everybody fights change. It's easy to do the same, comfortable things everyday, but that is not going to make your dreams or goals happen. Be accepting of the positive changes you are making and see your vision become a reality. Don't give in to those who are threatened by your success. Keep your eye on the prize :-)

That's awesome that you're doing BFL! I <3 BFL. I just started it again this week actually. I did the full 12-weeks of it last year from April to June and lost 25 pounds. I went from 180 to 155, which is my ideal weight (I'm a 5'9" male). As far as the days off goes, I would eat whatever on my days off - wouldn't count my calories or anything, and I still averaged about 2 pounds per week. I never have felt better in my life than when I was doing BFL last year. Since then I've pretty much kept the weight off - fluctuated a little around the holidays, but not too much. I decided to do it again this spring to get in shape for the summer. This time around for me I'm not targeting weight loss, but to build muscle and try to get a 6-pack (I was close to having one last summer when I finished BFL). If you need any pointers on some good "meals", I can share with you some of my staples during BFL. Keep up the hard work - it's not easy, but totally worth it. I'm going to head to the gym now and do my running.

Jgardei - thanks so much for those encouraging words.. you're totally right - we're doing this for ourselves, not anyone else, and must keep our eyes on the prize :-) My boyfriend is starting to come around.. I'm 6 weeks into the program and this is the longest I've been able to maintain BFL since we've been together (I did BFL years ago before I met him, so he's not familiar with that more disciplined version of myself :) In the past, I'd start BFL for a week or two, then fall off, and that would confirm his opinion that it was a "diet" that couldn't be maintained. He's also just very opinionated about health and fitness, because he's an athlete and in pretty good shape -- he just doesn't realize how different our bodies are.. but like I said, he's starting to recognize how much progress I'm making.

@ bhepdogg - Thanks for your message! Congrats on meeting your BFL goal the first time around - sounds like we had similar experiences in terms of weightloss(I went from 186 the first time to 145, but then settled around 160 for about 2 years, until I had an accident and started piling the weight back on). I'd love to get some of your recipes and pointers!
