Hot Cross Buns's Journal, 12 Mar 11

I've been prescribed two separate appetite suppressants. I thought this site would be a good way to watch my weight.

This is my third day on Wellbutrin and Ritalin. I've taken Ritalin by itself for two years and did not notice a change in appetite. The other day, I went to see my doctor for depression and he prescribed Wellbutrin. I realized on the very first day that I did not seem hungry at all and couldn't care less if I ate. I ate one meal that day, late at night after I got off of work. I had a french dip sandwich takeout from Perkins and fries (although I had ordered rice). I felt fine all day without eating, and did not even have an urge to eat that night, but my boyfriend and friend had asked me to bring food home.

The second day, my boyfriend (who has a food addiction) begged me to take him to Golden Corral, since he'd never been. I hate buffets since I always felt like it was a contest or something to eat as much as possible to get a good value for your dollar.

We went and I just wasn't interested in eating tons of food. I had one small entree plate and one small dessert plate. I ate about 1/3 or 1/4 of the food I used to at a buffet-type restaurant. I did not eat anything else.

Today I was sick, and am wondering if I caught something at Golden Corral. I had diarrhea all day and remembered how many serving spoons I'd touched, along with nearly everyone else in the restaurant. I was in great pain and lost a lot of fluid. I felt weak and had my boyfriend make me some Campbell's Chunky Chicken Noodle soup. All I had all day were two 240 calorie cans of soup and a whole row of Nabisco Saltines and a half cup of Gatorade and 2 cups of water and 4 cups of Diet Coke. I am writing this before bed and I feel OK now. I have a little pain in my gut but am getting better.

I am concerned about my lack of interest in eating and my lack of a varied diet. I have started myself on daily vitamins. I do need to lose a lot of weight so the appetite suppressants are good, but they are so extreme that I could go the whole day without eating if I don't force myself to eat. I expect to be a normal weight next year if I remain on these medications.

Hi, perhaps you need to see a nutritionist and ask for help in planning a good, balanced diet. At least you are not craving junk food, right? So you can take this chance to fill yourself with healthy food, fruit & vegetables. I definitely agree that you won't do yourself any good eating hardly anything, or eating only junk food.

Thanks Lee, I hadn't thought of that. I am a student and my first reaction was I don't have the $$ for a nutritionist, but now that I think about it, I think nutrition counseling is provided by my university. In the past, I ate only what I could and if I had some money, restaurant food (which is mostly junk food, even when it looks homemade - I have worked in restaurants). I admit, this was an unexpected side effect, but a welcome one! I have been very lazy regarding exercise because I work and attend college for a career change. I spend most of my free time on my duff, studying.

Eh.. the phrase "Thanks, I hadn't thought of that" sounds sarcastic, but I meant it sincerely.. lol. Hard to tell on the internet! Thanks again!
