I began this hoping I would lose the weight and to improve my A1c. I worked with a trainer three times a week for a year. I did not lose any weight. I did however improve my balance, coordination, strength, endurance, flexibility and most importantly, my stress level and emotional satisfaction. So, I began dieting to lose the excess weight. I tried several methods, and none really worked for me. I feel like all our bodies are different and respond differently to common dieting methods. One size does not fit all!! Eventually all I did was reduce portion sizes, stay away from treats and no alcohol. The weight just started falling off. In the past 2 months or so I have lost 13 pounds without even thinking about it. The focus on fitness instead of weight loss was the key. I feel better than I have in years. And my last doctor visit my A1c dropped from 6.5 to 5.9 and my cholesterol was at goal. Dieting can be mentally defeating but working toward fitness improves all aspects of our bodies and minds.

I gave up trying to diet using any of the plans I've seen out there. I just reduced my portion size at meals and stayed away from treats. I also cut out all alcohol. I added one more workout per week and 13 pounds just fell off over the past month and a half. I feel like we focus so hard on weight loss rather than fitness and in doing so sabotage our own efforts. When I switched my actions and thinking to fitness instead, everything changed. I feel better than I have felt in at least 12 years. I must give credit to the "ladies only" gym I use. The trainers there have given me the support and coaching to get to where I am at now. Now that I have lost the weight and have improved my overall fitness, I plan to stop thinking about my weight completely.

Ate poorly today. My husband and I went for the day and ended up eating fast food for lunch. It was our 34th wedding anniversary so we also went out for dinner and then to a wine tasting.

Since this is my first week, I am just monitoring my habits. I really like the idea of my fat, carbs and protein being calculated for me. I already have isolated a couple items contributing in a negative way. Obviously, cookies and the creamer for my coffee have no value but contribute to fat and carbs. The cookies are a rarity. I only made them this week for my elderly brother who lives in a nursing home. Next week there will be no cookies, no hamburgers and I need to reduce my creamer consumption.
