My first day of the "diet" (yesterday) is complete, and while I didn't do too bad, I wasn't perfect, either.

I ate my breakfast and lunch no problem, and even though I was craving sweets in the afternoon at work (and had jelly beans in my desk), I resisted. It wasn't until I had cooked my fish up for dinner that I had problems.

The fish was bland, and had small bones in it, which I can't stand. The eggplant I roasted in the oven (along with onions and a red pepper) had turned brown, so I didn't eat that part, either. I knew that a few veggies wouldn't hold me over, so I put those away for my lunch today, and made a batch of Red River cereal to eat. It didn't push me over my calorie limit, but I don't think it helped with the balancing part of eating.

Oh, and I had a can of Diet Orange Crush, which is a no-no on this diet, since it contains aspertame, which is one of the things that allegedly messes up your system. Bad me...

It's only the first day in, but I might tweak the diet a bit to better fit my personal tastes (I'm a picky eater). I'll still finish out this first week and see how it goes, but maybe afterward I'll incorporate some of the U Weight Loss recipes into things as well. We shall see. :)

It's official - today is the day I start my lifestyle change. I'm considering it a lifestyle change since that's what it has to be. That, and I hate the word "diet" and all the negative connotations I have surrounding it.

I'm doing the first week according to Jillian Michaels' "Master Your Metabolism" meal plan. I bought about 3/4 of my groceries from the organic grocery store yesterday, and it ended up costing me twice as much as normal. So although I understand that eating organic is beneficial, I don't think I'll be doing so. I just can't afford spending $200 a week on groceries - for ONE person. But hey, you learn something new every day, right?

I've only had breakfast so far today, and I seem a little hungry. It's entirely possible that I'm thirsty (thirst sometimes manifests itself as hunger) or that my hugner hormones are out of whack...so I'm not worrying too much yet. Under the plan, I'm supposed to eat every four hours, so lunch will be in about an hour. I can hold out till then :)

I'm going to try recording what I eat in here, too, so that I can see how many calories I'm eating - and make sure I'm not starving myself. Then it's off to the gym when I get home from work tonight. I'm trying to figure out what to do for exercise, though. I've got Jillian's "Making the Cut" book, so perhaps I'll use that program for 30 days and sees what happens...

So I'm up another pound. I'm not surprised, really, with the way this week has been going. That being said, it's scary/motivating that I've gone over the 160lb mark. When I was at my heaviest, I weighed 165lbs. At that point, during my yearly check-up, my doctor told me to lose 20lbs. So it's a touchy point for me.

That being said, I finished reading Master Your Metabolism. So much of it makes so much sense to me, and after looking over Jillian Michaels' recipes and "diet" (I hate that word), I think it's something I'd be able to pull off. As of Monday, I'll be on a new meal plan, as per her book, and will try that out for a week and see how it goes. I might even buy this book (or at the very least the cookbook). I've got about four other books by Jillian either checked out or waiting for me at the library to check out, so I'll hopefully be able to find a good workout routine and maybe some other knowledge from those as well. Once I look over them all, I'll perhaps place an order on Amazon.ca ;)

I'm really excited about this! I need to get a handle on my eating, exercise, energy, etc. and I really feel this'll be the way to do it. So wish me luck!
