Ok- everyone is talking about how great this Keto diet is. I want to try it but I am terrified that I will be eating all this high fat food and then not stick to the diet (bc I know I’m not great at sticking to stuff) and gaining a ton of weight bc I didn’t do it right. Any suggestions? If I am a flaky dieter- should I stick to counting calories??

One thing that helped me was paying attention to the other benefits of the diet to keep me motivated to stick with it. I had more energy and mental clarity. I was able to stop taking anti depressants and anxiety meds. my excess cleared up. I haven't had a seizure for years. it became more of a "way of eating" than a diet. The word diet has a negative stigma and therefore makes some people feel restricted by it. This is a fantastic group & will always help & encourage you!

If your behaviors have scuttled previous attempts at dieting... you'll have to (first) change the behaviors to have ANY success in ANY way of eating you undertake.

I personally never count calories and I loss 18 lbs in 2 months first time arnd! I focused on my macros making sure that I kept my carbs low, GOOD FAT HIGH, & protein moderate! A helpful tip is to use Ketone sticks to help you know if you’re in Keto or not... strips sold at Walmart! I had low appetite & high energy! Watch Keto videos on YouTube to familiarize yourself with Ketosis so that you will do it CORRECTLY! Be ready for not only changes in your weight but changes such as being tired, diarrhea, etc....!!! All of this will pass IF IT HAPPENS TO YOU AT ALL! But the benefits are so worth it! Give it a try... it works!!! Good Luck!!!

If you excercise, espically with cardio or high intensity training, then low carb probably isn't for you.

My first post . . . For me Keto has been the best. I started at 410 pounds. I was depressed, me eating habits were insane, I lived to eat. I celebrate, morn and punish myself with food. Every time I ate, I felt guilt. It was a vicious cycle. . . I felt bad, the only way to fell better was to eat. After the initial euphoria of eating wore off, I felt bad again. The only way to feel better was to eat. I would even sneak and hide food. that was mainly because I was ashamed - I didn't anyone to know WHAT and HOW MUCH I was eating. Plus I didn't want to share. This also added to my guilt and he only way to feel better was, yep you guessed it, EAT! My Dr. told me that everything I was eating was killing me and I got even more depressed. That's when I hit my all time highest weight of 410 pounds. I was on many prescription medications, several for breathing (or the lack of), 1 for high B/P, 1 high B/S, 2 for pain, 2 for the edema, etc. and I was also taking 12 to 16 ibuprofen each day. I was a mess. The weekend after seeing my Dr. a family friend and her daughter told me about Keto and for the first time I didn't turn to food for comfort. I immediately stopped eating the empty carbs and started eating proteins and fats, while limiting my total (net) carbs to 20 or less a day. Last week at the Dr. office I weighed at 381. Last Monday, after being on Keto for approx. 5 weeks, I dropped another 4 pounds - for a total of 33 pounds lost. I know this rate of loss would last, and frankly I don't want to lose it that fast. My goal is 1 pound a week from here on out. But I'm not going to complain if it is more. For the first time in my life I am eating to survive, not surviving to eat. I have a healthy relationship with food. I no longer look to food for comfort, I use it for fuel. I no longer take any meds, none. I haven't taken the Ibuprofen either. So you ask if Keto works, I can state with absolute confidence, that YES, Keto works without a doubt. I am living proof that this lifestyle (diet) works. If weight loss is your goal, this is the one.

I love keto. Dropped 55lbs last spring and have maintained all year. I don’t restrict carbs to less than 20 now, but try to keep them under 75 to maintain. I’ve never counted calories, just stayed away from sugar and breads, and it stays off. More energy, less joint pain. I feel 10 years younger and tripled my wardrobe (my teenaged daughters are close to my size 😂)

might I suggest starting by cutting down the carbohydrates slowly while increasing protein intake. Allowing your body to adjust is key in sticking with it. Also, the most important thing is to stop calling it a diet. A diet is something meant to last temporarily. Instead try thinking of it as a life style change.
