SantaCruz's Journal, 03 Jan 10

I read somewhere that the weight loss programs that are most successful include: 1) a food diary 2) an exercise log and 3) accountability.

I find that this site helps to track everything. I decided to have my weight public, to help bring in some accountability.

It's not just the weight, per se. It's my overall shape - the rolls of fat on my back & sides are so gross. I never used to be like this! My upper arms have become so flabby & out of shape, that I hate to wear long sleeves (unless loose), because of how tight the clothing becomes. I want to exercise, but being consistent seems to be so difficult.

My lifestyle has changed over the years - I used to be on my feet most of the time; now I have a desk job. I feel fortunate that I'm in generally good health; unlike some of my friends (gallstones, diabetes, cancer etc). But the solution is to exercise.

I know that the only way to change my shape, is to change my own self-image. There's the rub!

SantaCruz, I feel the same way. I have to change myself, no one else can do it. I'm trying to excerise but sometimes my mind says take the day off, so I listen and unfortunetly one day turns into many.

You are absolutely right Santa Cruz. You and I have a lot in common. I know that if I only exercised I would really start losing some weight and felling better. Up till now I guess I thought the exercise fairy would come do it for me. Accountability is a huge element in the weightloss challenge. I am going to the gym after work at least 3 times a week starting tonight. I'll let you know how it went. Let me know what your doing too. I look forward to hearing from you.

I think the key to exercise is finding something you like to do and doing it. It may not be traditional. What are some of the things you enjoy? Think about how you might make them into exercise. Example: If you like shopping, maybe walking the mall is the exercise for you. Dancing, maybe take ballroom lessons or if you are really ambitious - Zumba. Although I warn with the latter to bring along the defribulator. Just kidding - it's not that bad, close, but not that bad. :)
