So, I found an article that was helpful because it affirmed my lifelong philosophy that the scale can be detrimental to body image. I've been struggling with the daily fluctuation in my weight and I am seriously thinking about weighing in less frequently (maybe twice a week as opposed to everyday). Does anyone have helpful information about the frequency of weigh ins?
Also, I'm including the link to the article I found on weight fluctuation (it's also helpful for women since it talks about menstruation).

There's an article you can google called "why the scale lies". It gives you some insight in to why the scale fluctuates so much sometimes. For some people, weighing every day is a good thing. For others, it can be detrimental because they place so much emphasis on that number on the scale and if it doesn't do what they want, they give up. It's all about what is right for you. If you understand that our weight can fluctuate hourly, even when we do everything right, and it doesn't bother you, then weighing in daily is fine. Going down to a couple of times a week, may be good too. Do what is best for you.

Hi there, I have thought about this a lot. For me I find daily works best (keeps me focused) but yes, you have to cope with the scales bobbing about. My approach is to mentally accept the losses and reject any gains as being fluctuation. The lowest measure is the 'real' you, the rest is water/food. Mind games but it seems to work for me :-)

I also weigh every day, but I usually only record losses. I agree with RuthieK that the rest is just water :) I think it's okay to weigh every day if you can take it lightly. It's just a number. You are more than a number on a scale! Weightloss is a long journey. I try to focus on losing weight permanently not losing weight quickly. That mindset really works for me. I mostly weigh every day out of curiosity. I always weigh 4 pounds more on Monday than on Tuesday :) But if you find it bothers you and you focus on it too much, then there's no reason not to weigh yourself less often. Do what works for you!
