As you're a Type II, make sure you check your blood sugar more often and adjust the amount of any meds as necessary. Pills and Insulin lower blood sugar, if you are taking the same amount as when it was at its highest level you may end up with low blood sugar at times.... Great start !!

mahjohn Thanks I will check it more often, checked it three times to day. I was just excited about the 9.0 as my average for the last 6 months is 13.8.

That's good. Keep on it. The payoffs will be huge. Diabetes is a real problem. It's worth reducing the weight as it will really affect the disease. Talk to your doctor about cutting out a bunch of carbs. Unfortunately, the medical community usually wants to prescribe the meds and have you eat to meet the meds. Not a good approach. Ask about taking insulin using a sliding scale. It will likely require checking your sugar levels prior to the meal and eating in accordance.

I would like to add try to add in some resistance training. It could be something as simple as pushups and squats. It helps improve insulin sensitivity and glucose clearance.

Lifting changed me. I went from dieting to lose weight to dieting to support my new habit. Diet became secondary to the lifting, which I think was important for me. It kept me watching what I was eating for a reason other than weight loss, and it kept me learning about proper diet to support health. I completely agree with CatHerder.
