Today I collected an unexpected bonus from the weight loss.
I am in remission with a form of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. My first bout of it in 2010 trashed one of my kidneys and damaged the other, leaving my kidney function sufficiently impaired to be a serious long term worry. I am still on four monthly visits to my haematologist and I saw her this morning to get my blood results.
EVERYTHING in the pages of blood tests she ordered is back into the normal range. Most importantly, my kidney function is in the normal range for the first time since I was originally diagnosed.
It seems that my one operating kidney is now managing well, servicing a lighter body. I’d never expected that to happen and the threat of kidney failure has been a quiet elephant at the back of my room since 2010.
My haematologist says the improvement is totally down to the weight loss.
I had no idea that a mere 10% drop in bodyweight could produce such improvements.
Certainly underlines the importance of making an effort to be in the neighbourhood of the right weight for your height.
