"The greatest barrier to achievement and success is not lack of talent or ability but, rather, the fact that achievement and success, above a certain level, are outside our self concept, our image of who we are and what is appropriate to us. The greatest barrier to love is the secret fear that we are unlovable. The greatest barrier to happiness is the wordless sense that happiness is not our proper destiny."—Nathaniel Brandon, Honoring the Self (1983).

Great quotes.

Ain't that the truth. I've seen so much self sabatoging behavior in my lifetime. It is easy to become cynical. I remind myself that even if helping seems ineffective, the effort is a healthy activity.

Penderg, in my case, I was the one self-sabotaging and for the reason detailed in that quote. I didn't realize it, but a part of me did not believe a certain level of happiness was possible for me. I figured, I am surviving, is this not enough? Eventually, the answer returned in the negative. No, it was not enough. I've since made drastic changes to my life. They were not easy changes to make. But the prospect of remaining in a state of quiet desperation for the rest of my life was worse. I have found that I can state my truth, no matter how challenging I believe it will be for the other person to hear. I can state my truth, and I can sooth those words with peace. I can be someone I love and be the truth about me. 💙 I can have my cake and eat it too.

Love this. My jiu jitsu coach used to yell "BELIEVE!!!" at us all the time. What an encouraging thing to hear when you're unsure of yourself.

Absolutely right, you can have your cake and eat it too. Just don't eat too much cake. Ha Ha. We can all be the best version of ourselves.
