Hey everyone.
Im trying to lose weight, and grasping my set calorie deficit is sometimes hard. I just want some advice..

So Im currently consuming about 2200 cals(high protein and low carb). If I eat to little somedays, lets say 1500-1700cals, does it affect my muscle tissue? I dont feel hungry at all, since Im eating a late breakfast and an early dinner. And I am still able to do my daily gym routine, and not feel as if Im going to faint. Does this effect my metabolic rate too ?

Looking forward to the responses. All the best!!

What are your goals? Lose weight or build muscle?

Main priority is to lose weight but building muscle while doing that.

Ok so you have to either build muscle then loose weight or loose weight and sacrifice muscle gains. Carbs fuel the muscles, so cutting carbs will give you weight loss, but the right carbs at the right time will yield better results than cutting them completely.

Look into Steady State Cardio, its a different approach to weightloss without sacrificing muscle gains and was pioneerd by Mike Mentzer a very notable body builder.

As Wes says Cycling is a different sport on its own, you will loose riding in zone 2 103-135 bpm, but when you ride like we do doing 100km back to back days, we fuel up to 250g of carbs on the ride alone.

@Wes976 I’ll try the low carb diet first and see how much Im losing then. Im just glad I don’t feel tired after only consuming 1400cals and having an active day. Then I’ll change it it and compare which works best for me.

It depends on how quickly you want to see results. Even though it might be more efficient to either lose weight or gain muscle first and then do the opposite, I find doing both at the same time a bit more realistic and easy to turn into a lifestyle. I lost around 10kg in around 6 months and got a lot stronger in the gym while doing so and to me that's fine even though separating the weight loss and muscle gain would likely yield better results over the same period. Do whatever you can stick to for the rest of your life!!
