I joined the gym today. I'm really excited. I feel like the last couple weeks I've been in this funk and wasn't trying at all to get healthy. I have to stop that. I need to get healthy. I walked/jogged on the treadmill for 30 mins, and worked out my legs on the weight machines. Tomorrow I plan on going on the elliptical and working out my arms. I have no real plan in mind. I think for now just getting my butt to the gym is what I need to focus on.

I found it helped to have a plan for the gym. When i first started i didn't and got bored quit but when i had a plan I had a goal. Made me feel good when i walked out of the gym and I had completed my plan for the day.

Good for you! I joined a challenge and have been walking every evening. I am taking it a bit easy, due to the stress of my father being in the hospital and many things going on in my life. But I am not giving up... so, yes, get your butt out there and do it! I agree with DarthDiet too, a plan works!

My shrink and I just had a discussion about this (he lost a lot of weight due to being diagnosed with Type II Diabetes), and he had some sage advice: Going to the gym is great when you can, but studies show that the people who attain and maintain long-term weight loss, exercise whenever and wherever they can. So if it's taking the stairs instead of the elevator or walking to work sometimes or whatever, each little bit counts. I've been trying to focus on that this week. Have fun at the gym though and good luck!

Thanks everyone! I came up with a sort of plan. Yesterday I got 1.60 miles in 30 minutes on the treadmill. My first goal is to get 2 miles in 30 minutes and eventually get more and more miles.
