Hi you gorgeous peeps! So, I'm looking for a pic of me to upload, trying to find something that isn't too yuck. And I found this pic of myself when I was 14! Yes, I was a lanky skinny thing in hip huggers and rocking that white belt. So, I finally made it under 260 today. 259.1 pounds and I'll accept that. My question is: Why did I think I was fat when I was 14? What is wrong with us that we don't see ourselves as we are? I had friends that were tiny, like sticks. So I though I was fat. I mean, I remember having HIP BONES jutting out when I laid down and a HOLLOW belly! Just makes me mad to think I spent so many years thinking I was fat, then I guess along the way I decided to BE fat. Ugh. Looking at this pic, I embrace the girl I was and I love the woman I am. Fat or not, I'm happy and loved and loving. But I HAVE to get my blood sugar in normal ranges.

Peace out!

You were perfect. You're doing great. I started at the same weight and an a1c of 6.1. I've lost 75 pounds and my a1c is now 4.8. Hope yours does the same.

I used to remember my mom saying the same thing. I actually was fat as a teen but it was important for me to teach my daughters to love themselves. I think the social messages do a lot. I feel fat in “teen” stores as a size 8. All the shirts are half shirts and I wear an XL

I did the same. I think we are bombarded with too many negative messages and not enough "you are healthy and beautiful" messages. I started on diets in my teen years and had NO business dieting. My dad is diabetic and I watched him struggle with his weight, so I think that made it worse for me. I'm 40 and have avoided diabetes, so far. My fasting sugar is always slightly elevated, but my A1C is 5.2. You can do it!!

I have said in the past, I wish I was as “fat” as I was as a teenager. I too had and still have the issue of trying to be what society wants me to look like. But I'm learning to love me, just a healthier version.

The ultimate gift to yourself, your children and others in your family is to create a culture where the focus is on loving yourself enough to take care of your health. We have to lead by example.
