Gramma Karel's Journal, 26 Dec 22

Well I made it through the holidays with no gain. If I can bake 5 pies for Christmas and not eat any of it, I can do this, right? I do get disappointed and discouraged when I lose 20 pounds and can't really see a difference. I'm not really down a single size. That's when I start telling my self that it's no use. I worked hard for the 20 pounds and what difference did it make? And that's how I talk myself into quitting. This is the point that is hardest for me.

Gramma, seems like what might be more important is the different feelings you have when you are healthier - ie, you feel better about yourself and your choices, you probably feel it's easier to do certain things, and you have a feeling of accomplishment. So if you can, try to gently remind yourself the journey is as much about losing size as it in gaining good feelings about yourself and good health outcomes. So on that front you have made tremendous progress already! Ps, i'm in awe that you can bake pies and give them away. Such tremendous generosity of spirit! :)

Everything is perception... your glass needs to be half full versus half empty. 20 lbs is a great loss that some may never attain. So you should celebrate that your heart isn't having to work as hard. That other major organs may be operating easier because of it. I tell you I struggled forever with trying to see my results. So I started taking pictures to compare/contrast that really helped me see how far I've come. But losses come in all different ways not just clothes, scale, feeling better, happier, more energy, less aches etc. The way you keep going is by celebrating and acknowledging your hard work. Not tearing yourself down. The mental side of "losing weight" and improving our health all around. Is so underrepresented in all of this. We are what we tell ourselves we are. So if you tell yourself great job let's keep at it. That's what you'll believe... same as telling yourself you haven't done enough. Be kind to yourself.

20 pounds can make a great difference in blood pressure and blood sugar control. If you are not already a type 2 diabetic or have hypertension, this loss can help you stay on that healthier path. If you are not doing some type of resistance training, that would really help in reshaping your body. You are doing good! Stay on the path.

Please stick with it. I was a bit higher than your current weight when I found this app nearly two years ago. Little by little you will find yourself needing to grab something in a smaller size from your closet, and walking around and doing small chores will seem easier. If your doctors are like mine, they will be happy to see the 20 pounds gone and tell you that slow and steady is the way to go. Wishing you continued progress and all the best in the new year. Glad you are here!

I don't know about you but I usually let my clothes get really tight before buying a larger size. Right now I've lost close to 20 pounds. In 2022 and the clothes aren't loose yet. After going down the first size I usually need to loose just over 10 pounds for the next size down.

Oh girlfriend, I hear you loud and clear! I took a before picture and my picture 20 pounds later looked exactly the same. My shape had not changed. But, you cannot let that voice inside your head try to derail you again. You are so strong; you inspire me to stay the course. Let's keep working on being healthy. We can do this, even at our ages. Onward!

Hang in there..I know I squeeze myself into clothes that are too small so it does not seem to make a difference when I lose but the scale and tape measure are saying I have changed so I am working on keeping on.
