Well .. I've passed another milestone in my life .. and marked it with my own personal achievement.

Yesterday, my first born .. my son .. got married. He'd moved out of the house the week prior, in preparation, but now it's official.

When you're young, your future can seem like being faced with so many doors to choose from. As you get older, the selection gets smaller and smaller. But, when you get the opportunity to have children, and raise them .. see them grow into adults .. and finally see them married and starting their own life, all of a sudden THEIR doors become YOUR doors. As they are confronted with choices to make, you're there with them, guiding them along. Overnight, you're whisked back to your youth, with all the same anxieties. Unfortunately, as you get older your body isn't as prepared for those anxieties as it once was.

That is where my own personal achievement comes in. Last year, I was at a 'Santa'-like 260 pounds. I looked how I felt .. like someone nearing 50. Then, I found FatSecret .. and now, at the cusp of my son's new life .. I'm back to where I was when I was 40 .. nearly 200 pounds. By the time Christmas rolls around again, I hope to be where I was in my 30's .. 175 pounds. If I'm lucky, when I put my Santa suit on for this years Christmas party, I'm going to need a LOT more padding .. ;-)

I am very grateful that I had FatSecret to get me to where I am now .. much better prepared for all those new doors .. now, if only I can help my son, and his family, make the right decisions .. :-)
