Otb, I can tell you what works for me when going out for "Special Occasions" at restaurants when the food isn't going to be what I really want or cooked the way I really want. I remind myself, for me, it's not about the food at all. I'm going for the ambiance, to enjoy good friends, family etc. And that's what I'm paying for, the good time with them. And food just happens to be served while I'm there! Reminding myself of this takes out this sting when I take out my wallet 😁

Also, for a special time eating out. Go try out different restaurants preferable with food your not used to having. Check the ingredients for the things you know you don't want like fats, salt preservatives. Then go for it. I think you'll be surprised, and I look forward to hearing about some of your new adventures :-) JB said it pretty well :-)

LivinBreezy good point 👍 need to focus way less on the calorie portion of things and more just on the event itself I'm just so engraved in the thinking now of deciding what to eat based on how I will feel afterwards will the satisfaction I got from the food justify the calories or would I have been happier eating something else and probably more quantity but lower calorie.

Eating steak at home is much cheaper, and doesn't take long to cook, so I don't know why you would order that in a restaurant. For date night I would certainly take the spouse out for food she would not normally cook or eat at home. For instance, I don't roll sushi, so: Japanese. But really, why does the date have to be eating dinner? One of my favorite dates was when a guy took me to a local farm where we picked out pumpkins from the patch, went on a hayride, and shot mini gourds with a sling. Another guy took me to an amusement park. Football/basketball games. So long as you focus on the activity and enjoy it without the kids, no one has to gain weight.

JustBananas we really enjoy all that stuff with the kids the dinner thing mostly comes down to having someone else serve cook and clean up. Plus our schedules are madness now with the kids sports school so dinners now are very rushed and sometimes not even eaten together with all my oncalls. So the occasional date night dinner is atoll our best option but your right on the steak part not worth going that route anymore.

JB, 'Date Night' based on a fun activity is so much better! The main point is you and your 'date' having an awesome time out with each other (no kids)! 👍

HaHaHaHa, We realized we needed 'date night' one evening when I started cutting my husbands meat, while it was on his plate right in front of him 😆🤣😆

D_not_Cupcake my wife gets home and hour and a half before me so she gets stuck with the brunt of the cooking. then by the time I get home we usually have less then 40 minutes for some part of the family to be out the door and on their way to an activity so usually dinner is one of us putting cleats or a unifrom on 1 kid while the other is cutting up food and wrangling the daughter back to the table when she tries to get up and play with the dog Instead of eating. Ohhh parenthood 😄 🤣 😂

The same week he not only opened my car door (that was usual, and always appreciated) but reached over to buckle me in!!! 🤔 THAT was a little much

My wife and I have our 10 year anniversary date night next Saturday. Couples massage, dinner & haunted house. I'm sure we will both be bloated for a few days. It will subside though.
