HerStrawberri's Journal, 20 Jun 11

Happy Monday! I have decided to really focus on my food this week. I stepped on the scale today and there was a gain. I wasn't surprised as I ate terribly saturday. I KNOW I need to stop being so scale focused, BUT, TO ME that is the most important thing. Everyone has their own idea of what 'being healthy is'. Mine includes the scale, BUT i also know I need to measure and use that as indicators as well.

I'm going to try to do more exercise this week. I hurt myself last week doing cardio boxing, I think I was to gung ho. I'm a big girl and when you start having your 'stuff' flapping around....it hurts. Well for me anyway. I keep having a pain on my left side kind of by my ribs. I have always had this pain if someone pushed on my side the wrong way or if one of my cats jumped on me but now it's all the time. DR said it's nothing when i had it checked out months ago. Not that I have much faith in DRs. Anyway, going to do a lower key exercise today and walk. I walked alot over the weekend so I have been doing that.

I'm also going to be slowly stopping my diet coke in the morning habit. I'm NOT a coffee drinker. I drink glass of diet coke. I used to drink diet coke all day but I have gotten myself to one glass in the morning. Today I'm having a smaller glass. I get bad caffeine headaches if I don't drink it, so I'm slowly going to go down. I have read lots of info about diet soda stalling weight loss and decided it's time to stop. I don't drink it because its diet, i drink it because I LIKE it. So it will slow. I have to do it though. I mean, If I can basically give up chocolate...i can give up diet coke. =)

I've started new vits today. No bad taste. Hopefully these will work. I know I need to take them. I'm also taking calcium and vit D. Also looking into some others. I have been doing alot of research on different supplements and what could possibly work for me. So we will see about that.

I'm trying to make sure I do everything the right way as this is a lifestyle change for me. In my experience, diets don't work. For me anyway. I need to make positive changes that will last for the rest of my life not just until I reach my goal weight.

My blood pressure going down really made me feel good, like I really AM making positive changes. I may not be perfect and i still have a long way to go....but at least I'm going in the right direction.

Hey new Buddy!! I also need to watch the scale, that's the only way for me to be accountable and know when I'm slipping - otherwise a pound gain becomes 3 becomes 10. I as well am addicted to diet coke for the taste. Today I'm at work without a car, and out of diet coke here, so decided it was a good day to try just water (which everyone says is one key for losing weight). I'll see how I feel by the end of the day - I don't really like the taste of water, but find that if I drink it really cold with ice cubes, its OK. Keep moving forward - small changes are the way to go. I'd take it easy on the cardio workouts - what you don't want to do is put yourself in bed from working too hard.

That's why I get on it all the time I think. I need to know where I'm at. I think I MAY be obsessed ( partner thinks so) but... it's something I can't help. I did move it out of the bathroom so I'm not always looking at it everytime I'm in there. Small steps changes like you said. =) I happen to LOVEEE water. I drink about a gallon a day. It will get easier the more you drink. Thank you for the post!

I LOVE diet coke too....I wasnt much of a coffee drinker but I have slowly taken steps to drinking a cup in the morning to replace my diet coke...I put just a little sugar and half anf half in, but I figure natural stuff with calories is better for me than artifical stuff thats in diet coke. I love water and I have noticed I dont get such a bad caffiene headache if I drink tons of water.

Great idea about the diet coke. I love it too, but only have it as an occasional treat (like when we go out to dinner, which is not often, or maybe at the mall, again not often). I am a coffee person, but have been thinking about switching to herbal tea in the morning just to kill the flavored creamer cals, lol! Water and green tea are the go to drinks after that. Great statement about making life changes, not just until goal. That is key. Just think of all the things we can try or accomplish being fit and well. Love that idea. Have a great day!!

I wish you luck on the diet coke front. I remember how hard it was to give up soda when I did it years ago (diet dr. pepper for me), but it can be done. I haven't had soda in years and I don't miss it much at all now. As far as supplements go, there is alot of information out there. It took me a while to get my supplements figured out; I started out on the Atkins diet and took the recommended supplements from the book and website. Some of those were really expensive though and I could afford to continue taking them.

Angie Rose~ I LOVE diet dr p as well, but diet coke is my crack. I used to drink it all day every day but I cut down to one glass a few years ago as it was messing up my sleep. I have since found I still have sleep issues and I'm not sure that was the culprit. I didn't go back to drinking it all day though. I don't really do Atkins. I kind of do a variation of it. i don't like a lot of veggies so Atkins wasn't really a good choice for me. I know that low carb works the best for my body so I'm kind of seeing what works. It looks like you are kind of doing the same thing? Thank you for the post!

Yep, I lost about 13 pounds in four weeks during induction and then I stalled for a bit and thought, "I am I going to be able to maintain this lifestyle?" Realistically, no. So, I tweaked my foods a bit and it seems to be working for the time being.
