One of my co-workers approached me about lending her $200 today. I felt awful telling her I was in the same boat. She looked so stressed out and so desperate, I wanted to help her anyway. I asked if she and I could sell some banana nut bread, but she said her lights went off yesterday, and she needed the money NOW. Her husband lost his job, and now she didn't who to go to or where to go.

If I had the money, I would have GIVEN it to her. But my credit is sh*t. All I do is pay minimum on credit cards that are maxed or over the limit, and I live paycheck to paycheck. The only "luxury" I'm able to justify to myself right now is being able to work out with Angel at her studio or bootcamp. I truly can't afford it, but I can't afford to stop going, either.

I don't know if she believed me. You can look at me and tell, can't you? Do I look like I go shopping for myself? I don't even wear make-up.

Life is hard. I suggested to her that if she really needed money, she should sell any gold she had. Pat gave me a necklace to sell to a gold buyer two years ago, and he gave me about $100 for it. It wasn't even 14k. I think it was only 10k, but she got some money for it.

I hope things turn out OK for her. I think she's going to check the gold buyers today and see how that fares.

My mother always told me to invest in two things as an adult: property and gold. She said that gold is the better of the two. First, if all hell breaks loose, you can pack your gold and take it with you, nevermind your clothes. Secondly, it's good anywhere in the world. Third, and most importanly, it goes up in value as time passes. How right she was. Too bad I don't listen very well...
