G'Mornin all! 🐓🌞

Talkin bout calories today. Basically, it all comes down to CICO, I believe. How many calories you take in vs. how many calories you use/burn during a period of time, THAT will determine if you lose or gain weight. Period.

Doesn't matter if it's 1200 calories of crappy food or 1200 calories of 'clean' food...it's still a mathematical equation, with regards to gaining/losing.

However...it certainly DOES matter NUTRITIONALLY! The body will react very differently IN OTHER WAYS to that crappy or clean fuel.

I am not a Registered Dietician nor a Nutritionist...but everything I'm seeing as I research, points to QUALITY calories making a huge difference to our mental & physical performance. I figure if I'm allowing myself 1200 calories a day of food (fuel)...I'm gonna try to make it count NUTRITIONALLY. I'm gonna try to follow USDA and other professional guidelines to make sure my body gets everything it needs to function at it's best.

Anyway...I'm probably preachin to the choir here, cuz most of you already KNOW how important it is to choose nutritious food over junk food (at least 90% of the time), right? And staying within our calorie budget means actually knowing how many calories we are consuming.

So here's a couple graphics to maybe make it a little easier to cut some calorie 'corners'. Happy Sunday to you all! Hope you remembered to 'Spring' forward this morning ⏰ (I really REALLY dislike Daylight Savings Time, btw) 🌼🌱🌷

I don't think you came on too strong, CrystalJo 😊 Ultimately it is all about energy balance. Where opinions differ is what's the best strategy

@Jergens123...hello my friend 🙋‍♀️ I always welcome your comments and insights...as I do ALL my FS family 💙 I haven't researched about the 'ripening' process of foods...so I really can't respond to that. As with most topics, there's bound to be differing 'expert opinions' about that too!🤷‍♀️

Agree CrystalJo. Great conversation. I like keto, but I also do CICO with keto. 1600 calories/10/20/70 macro CPF. Never fails me in the Loss phase. No cravings, no hunger. My failures are all in maintenance. And end up yo-yoing weight.

I don't log calories or weigh my food. My daily food plan is a version of a traditional food pyramid with slight modifications. I believe most opinions are based on either, strictly from a weight loss standpoint or from a nutritional level. Why anyone would eliminate foods from the earth from their diet just to lose weight is perplexing. I open the fridge for lunch and say "grab a protein, a few veggies and a complex carb, search out foods with healthy omega fats, probiotics. I estimate each meal around 450-500 calories and cut out snacks. I believe food is fuel and nutrition for our bodies and that is much more than just "energy" from calories. When I do feel like a some candy... I eat it but never at the cost of skipping something from a meal. It is what it is...I also don't believe exercise should be a means to lose weight. Exercise is to strengthen your bones and muscles. This has worked for me for years to not only lose weight but maintain. You do you and I do me !

PS... I eat what others call REAL or CLEAN foods all the time. Pizza if made the right way falls into that category. So does a burger if made right with healthy toppings. French fries on the other hand.... not so much. I rarely eat JUNK but maybe every two weeks or so I feel like potato chips, a soda or some other item. Good topic you posted !

@crazycatchick...I hope someday to be able to do less weighing/measuring and more 'eyeballing' it like you. I'm still in the stage where I need to know what a 'portion' looks like. You are absolutely right...we each have a different WOE based on MANY MANY factors. I respect that you have found your path and that it's continuing to work so well for you!👏👏👏💪💙
