RealtorInTx's Journal, 22 May 09

Okay, yesterday I decided to play 'Superwoman'...
I took my poor underweight husband with me on my morning walk (I didn't feel like exercising, so I asked him to come along to help me get it going). After a couple of laps, I let him know I was 'good to go' on my own, but he decided to walk the 2.5 miles with me! After, we drove over to the Y to check out the nature trail we'd been hearing good stuff about. Ended up doing another mile over there. It was his off-day and a great way to spend some time together!

Once we got home, did breakfast, I decided to sweep the patio around the pool while he skimmed the few leaves from on top of the water. Ended up getting a second wind and decided to do some raking and other yard work. Stopped for a snack, checked in with FS, then decided to unwind by taking a leisurely dip. Well....not this 'Superwoman'. :-)

I ended up trying some new Abs water exercise moves that I found on the Prevention.com website. Then frog kicks, etc. My husband kept me company (from under the table umbrella...LOL) and was cheering me on as I 'worked it' from one end of the pool to the other. Finally, I let the jets beat against my thighs, calves, and lower back before calling it a day...or so I thought!

I'd purchased a Pedometer last week and had decided to finally wear it yesterday and shoot for the 10,000 steps that 'everyone' talks about. Don't you know that as of 9:35pm last night I was only at 9,403 steps. Grrrrr. Though it's not water-proof and can't calculate my 'steps' during my pool workout, I really wanted to meet my goal and actually see that number. There was just something about being so dog-gone close to that 10,000 mark, that I just couldn't let it go.

Well, I'd already taken an Epsom Salt bath and was in my night clothes...So what do I do? I walked around my house...the Whole house (up the stairs, down the stairs, through all the bedrooms, gameroom, office, living/dining/kitchen, etc) HaHaHa :-) My husband was watching me as though he was at a tennis match....back & forth, back & forth, cheering me on. I was exhausted, but HIS confidence kept me going! LOL.

Finally, I officially reached 10,112 steps! Now here's what I'm thinking.....if it takes ALL THAT to reach 10,000 steps in one day, perhaps I should re-evaluate my goal! LOL

Anyway, after a Ben-Gay rub down, and 2 Aleve's, LOL...I had a Great night's sleep and was back at the Y this morning for my water aerobics class!

I just got up from a 3hr 'nap'. My body had decided...ENOUGH! lol Thank goodness this is a long weekend. Maybe I can work on getting my body used to what my mind is wanting to do! :-)

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY Weekend, Everybody!!!
Enjoy & Stay Safe!

Fabulous journal post. I have been thinking of getting a pedometer when I get the ok to start walking again. Sounds like a good idea...in moderation. lol Have a great weekend.

Thanks for your comment WECAN! Yes..."Moderation" is the word I was looking for. LOL. Hopefully, you'll get the all-clear soon, but in the meantime, I'm proud of you for listening to your Docs and heeding their advice! Better to come back strong at 100% than to push it at only 50% and risk further injury. You're doing Great!!! Have a wonderful weekend with 'the girls'...time with loved ones is sooo precious! Looking forward to reading about 'some' of it when you get back. I'm keeping in mind...what happens on vacation, stays on vacation! LOL Have Fun! :-)

Great job! I just got a nike+ that attaches to my ipod and basically does the same thing. What I like about it is that it uploads my walking/running to the nike website and I can track my progress. I find that I am doing the same thing as you are...I take the ipod when I walk my dog and anytime I am out and about walking or running. I was sitting in my house and thought I can do one more mile before it gets dark. lol Keep up the great work!

Thanks Spamrazz! I'm finding that there's something about wearing it that makes you want to do more. :-) I've heard of the Nike+, but I'll probably have to graduate to it. I don't have an ipod, just an MP3 player (don't even know the difference between those two) LOL. But, my baby bought it for me for Christmas and I recently downloaded my favorite '70's tunes on it...Love it! I'll ask my oldest son about the Nike+ when he gets back from his weekend trip. Maybe it's something I'd really like. You know, technology is really something else! I graduated with a degree in Computer Science in 198bum-bum-bum-bum. lol. Back then Nobody even had PC's...at least no one I knew of. It was all mainframes. In fact, we had to use JCL cards to input data and TWO of the computer languages we learned and used toward our degree are now obsolete! HaHaHa! My sons wonder how we ever got along without the things they've used all their life. They're really patient with me, as I return one of their text messages (I still prefer to enter each letter at a time). They were REALLY impressed last year when I finally started to 'blog'. lol They tease me and call me Mom-the-Blogger! Oh, the passage of time...gotta love it!

You rocked it out yesterday, awesome! You're fortunate to have support, I'm sure it is a huge help. Besides that, looks like you inspired me, too! Thank you for that. Oh, by the way, maybe some yoga can help that soreness!

Well the nike+ only works with the Ipod...so if you have an mp3 player I would stick with your pedometer since it seems to be motivating you. I know what you mean about technology. i work at an elementary school and my kids saw a typewriter in the library and they asked me what it was. I almost had a heartattack@! lol I worked with a girl right out of college and she didn't know how to do some very basic computer things which shocked me b/c she has probably had computers in her school since she started and I didn't have access to computers until college, and even then it was limited. Crazy whatyou can do with the technology these days.

Shia~~thank you so much! Yes, indeed, you are so right...I'm truly thankful for the support I have! This Man-o-Mines gets on my nerves sometimes, but I think I'll keep him. :-) If he were to read this, he'd probably say...Hey, wait a minute...that's MY line! LOL :-) Oh, and thank you for the Yoga tip...I hadn't thought about that for easing the soreness!

Spamrazz~~LOL @ the typewriter incident. My sons couldn't believe I grew up with only 5 or 6 TV channels. Years ago, when they found out, they just shook their head. I think they felt sorry for me! LOL Too much! Thanks for the heads-up. You're right, I think I'll stick with my little mp3 for now. Besides, I know my son feels good about me using it! :-)

That certainly sounded like a high energy day! You have come a long way since that untimely chicken quesdilla started you off down the hill. :-)

Congrats on your Superwoman day and your pedometer! I've been like that with my pedometer, too - pacing to get my steps in for the day. :) It's addictive, but in a good way! I have an Omron HJ-112, which is great because you can just carry it in a pocket. I track my steps on walkertracker(dot)com. It's great that you and hubby encouraged each other in activity time together. Even if he's 'underweight', moving is a good thing! Hope you're enjoying your weekend - happy stepping!

lol...Information, you are so right! A looong way from those quesadilla days! I'm finally moving in an 'uphill' direction :-) AMRYK, oh yes...it's certainly addictive in a good way! The concept of actually counting steps is pretty incredible when you think about it (I hadn't before)! I just Love it! I'm going to check out walkertracker.com today...thanks! And, you're right about my SweetPie hubby. The walking really is good for him. I want to make sure my heart's 'heart' stays in good shape! He enjoyed it (though I made sure he ate a Double-Sized breakfast) lol Thank you both for your comments :-)
