ok. I am going to be brave and share some of my personal thoughts. Two weeks ago, I went to a concert with my closest friend. The conversation came around to dieting and I revealed that I had lost 45 pounds since June. her response? oh I thought it looked like you had lost a bit of weight. Crushing. Yesterday I had lunch with friends I hadn't seen since pre-Covid. Nothing.
One half of my brain thinks that it's okay; your friends love you regardless and that people just won't mention weight to be polite. (Almost anyone who has lost weight would be thrilled if someone noticed, IMO. 😆) But the other half of my brain thinks that people just don't truly see people who are fat. They just see the weight.
Have others experienced this?

Well you know and that’s what matters. I’ve lost 50 and my friends notice even those I’ve not seen in a long time. They don’t say oh you’ve lost weight .. they say you look great!!! So those who say nothing that’s ok… and just casually say…hey did you notice I’ve finally lost that weight I’ve been trying to and I’m so happy!

On an opposite line of thought sometimes I think people that love us just see us. Like @davidsprincess said sometimes it takes a bit.

My favorite parallel nightmarish response to my weight loss over the last year - once I'd lost 70 lbs I mentioned to a British friend, hey, I lost 5 stone. He replied, well sure, but isn't that the same 5 stone you lost 3 or 4 times before? awesome.

I have battled with my weight my whole life, however, it was a wake up call when after losing 125lbs my nephew noted how good I looked and my brother chimed in she only lost a few lbs. I looked at him with distain and informed him I was over 367lbs and now was headed towards 200. He laughed and said I was never that heavy...we had to take out old photos to prove it to him. He cried and apologized. I was never sure why he apologized...whether he was sorry I was ever that size or whether he was sorry for never really seeing me(he has since passed & I'll never know). The point is you do this for you. If you feel clothes are loose or you can notice the whole of you came in the room at the same time and not your belly first, then you've made progress and should be proud. My story, your story are not unique. We here all share not only a common goal(to get healthy) but to educate others & make them feel special. You my friend are special and here we will always acknowledge your milestones & support you when you slide off track.

A lot of people tend to be self-absorbed. That's not bad. It's just the way it is. Sometimes they don't notice and don't mean any harm by it. It's also become popular to say you shouldn't comment on people's weight. Doesn't matter if it's to say they've gained it or lost it. The idea is it's a personal thing to point out and some people have lost weight because they are sick so this is either encouraging an eating disorder or complimenting them on something they didn't want. The best thing to do is expect nothing and not make assumptions about why people say or don't say things.

There are many reasons why people don't say anything about. It is hurtful. The day will come when people can't help but notice what progress you have made. Keep up the good work!!! You are doing GREAT!!!
