I stayed up late last night to watch the season finale of "Longmire." I have now binge watched four seasons of "Justified." I don't think there's another series as good as it, but I want to find something to watch while exercising. I think I'll work my way through "Grimm," to pick up on the episodes I missed. Some episodes I remember how they turned out; others, I don't. Then it's on to "Falling Skies." That should keep me occupied for a while.
Seven hours of solid sleep, no wide awake episodes, two hours of drowsing in and out of sleep while listening to podcasts.
I ordered from Amazon PrimePantry today. I haven't been to Kroger since July 29. I've been staying away from Kroger, partly to draw down the extensive stocks of food I have in my pantry, refrigerator, and freezer, some of which is due to expire, which have accumulated because I over-buy at Kroger (temptations such as dented can sales, manager's specials, discontinued items, etc, etc.); partly to avoid other temptations: bistro meals and f'real milkshakes, and the cheap pastries on the day-old break rack.
I don't intend to do all my grocery shopping at Amazon: this is PrimePantry, not Amazon Fresh. It's more in the nature of a supplement. Mostly I got SlimFast shakes for down days, sparkling water because I'm trying to wean myself from sugary drinks, fruit bowls (I probably don't eat as much fruit as I should), 100 percent grape juice, low sodium V-8, lime juice, gum, etc., with several coupons.
All in a box, delivered by Tuesday for $6. I spent as much as I do at Kroger. I figure I also save time because I can blow an entire afternoon at Kroger. Sixteen Slim Fast shakes at one every other day is enough to last me for a month. I filled another box, but decided I would shop at the same rate as Kroger so I pared it down to one box.
There is a local equivalent of Amazon Fresh, without the hefty $300 membership fee. I'm looking into Relay Foods as a source for locally grown, organic produce.
"Shop over 200 local and regional producers along with quality national brands. Learn about the people who make your food. Shop by your specific dietary preferences and restrictions.
"Do it all from the comfort of your living room, or even from your mobile phone, and we'll bring your groceries to you. It isn't magic, it's Relay—grocery as it should be."
One of the tips I gleaned from reading "The Alternate Day Diet" yesterday: choose five recipes of low-calorie density foods and just eat those. You're more likely to stick to your diet.
The realization that I have an inguinal hernia has knocked me for the proverbial loop. I felt I was dealing with the loss of muscle mass and now this come along to mess up the way I was dealing with it, exercise. I take comfort from the lesson imparted by "The How of Happiness: A New Approach to Getting the Life You Want" by Sonja Lyubomirsky, Ph.D.: we can recover from life's setbacks even better than we were before. The good news is that it has taken a long time to develop. The bad news is that I did some thing to accelerate it. According to Men's Health, "Losing weight is helpful if you are overweight." Doesn't seem to be any indication that cycling causes hernias.
I've been staying away from Starbucks so I've been saving money and avoiding my addiction, sugar.
I bought a Kindle edition of "Strength Training Step by Step (Essential Skills)" before I figured out I had a hernia.
Cardio: 30 minutes on the Air Walk Trainer, steps: 703. I only hit 1,000 calories today, not for lack of trying. Tomorrow is cheat day so I will make up for the low calories today and probably have pizza.
