I'm feeling a bit frustrated with my lack of an exercise program. As you may have read, I'm an expat living in Angola Africa at the moment, more specifically, the capital city Luanda. Due to a recent election and just the fact its a third world country, I'm limited to walking and working out in just our compound. Unfortunately we live in one of the smaller compounds that only has a small walking track that isn't paved so the ground is very uneven. Whereas I do walk on the track, it gets boring to walk around a small track day after day.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for a home workout that i could do? I don't have any machines. I'm going home to Texas for a short visit in April so I can pick up items and bring them back with me. I was thinking about bringing a jump rope, one of those big balls, and possibly some free weights. Any suggestions are greatly welcomed!

Another thought was exercise videos... does anyone use these anymore?

I purchased P90X and it is a great workout... You can use the weight bands with this program for strength training and you get cardio as well.. It works for me

Leslie Sansone all of her walk dvd's are awesome, and never ever boring. Also, I like to just turn up the music and dance to it.

Thank you for the suggestions! I checked out the P90X... it looks like something I need to work into maybe but I'll probably buy it so I have it. Plus I have until April to get into shape enough to get through the workouts it describes! I'll have to check out Leslie Sansone's dvds. Thanks again!

P90X is good. Insanity is great too. It requires absolutely no equipment and it's fun. It's a really tough program. Adapt it if you have too.

Go on Amazon.com or Collagevideo.com! So many workout dvds you can do in your own home. Jillian Michaels kicks your butt in to shape. The Walk Away The Pounds are great for beginners. Bring back a mat and some hand weights and you can get in great shape. A jump rope is good, but you want things you can enjoy. Zumba? Yoga? Dance? Youtube has some on there for free too. When its snowing and I can't get out, I do a cardio workout at home and maybe some strength training.

I stopped purchasing workout programs since discovering they are all on YouTube anyway! Can you get enough internet connection to use that there? The world's your oyster if you can!!!

Push ups and pull-ups are essential for upper body. Hardly need anything else. Lower body can be single leg squats, Bulgarian split squats (add weight when ready), sandbag Deadlifts, Romanian deals for hams/glutes/lower back. Lunges suck but they have their place, especially with weight added. Grab a child or something in absence of equipment. Bodyweight stuff is awesome

Suzi, we used to have a lady that held Zumba classes in the evenings; it was so much fun! Unfortunately, she and her husband moved on to their next assignment. I look forward to moving back home so I can join Zumba again; and probably CrossFit, they both look so much fun... much more than jump rope. :) TallPoppy, unfortunately we don't have much luck streaming videos here. I guess the banwidth isn't enough. But excellent idea for future locations... I could stream and put it on the television with the apple tv. :) Ennaejay, thanks so much for this list. I know that push-ups are good for upper body but i'll admit that i've been avoiding them like the plague. :( I'll have to change my habits and start doing them. For the rest of the stuff, I'll google (so I know what it is) and try it out. Thank everyone that responded! Y'all are awesome and have given me excellent ideas.
