Today I am thinking about non-scale victories. As we try to balance our expectations with reality and not focus so much on a number, sometimes it is a boost to think about different changes resulting from our fat loss and fitness gained. Some of them are so subtle they are easy to miss! Here are some of the ones that are coming to mind at the moment. It would be wonderfully fun if anyone and everyone could add to the list with their own NSVs!

I can wear tall socks! I can do so without folding them down because they are hurting my very fat calves!

I needed to learn to sleep differently, because I was waking up with my knees hurting. The “padding’ is diminished between them!

I can “steal” the clothing from my 20 something daughters!

I used to weigh around 30 pounds more than my husband, now I weigh almost twenty pounds less! Ok, that is kind of a scale thing.

Working in my yard and garden is not something I dread but that fills me with enjoyment. I can bend and lift and dig and squat and push and rake and then do it again.

I went from busting out of size 16 to wearing some size 6.

I can run!

A 10 mile walk is not daunting in the least!

I wear sleeveless shirts, mini skirts, and shorts. I went for so many years wearing long skirts to hide my fat legs.

I have collarbones and cheekbones!

So, when we get discouraged because the scale isn’t exactly what we would want, looking for the NSVs can lift the spirits! And please, don't see this as bragging... not for you and not for me. We are on a journey to better health or we would not be on this site. I am trying to be encouraged. We have come a long way!

Melissa, the reason I enjoy posting my meals on here is to show you can lose weight & maintain while still enjoying tasty food! I made it a challenge to come up with ways to prepare foods I love with lower calories without giving up on flavor. If you ate reasonable portions, you wouldn't gain eating with me 😀 I'd love to have you sit at my table ❤

How I wish I could join you for one of your beautiful meals and enjoy your lovely property by the river, Sherry! I tell myself sometimes that when it is just my husband and me, and our budget for food is bigger, that I will focus more on nicer meals. Reality is, I think I'm just sick of cooking boring, boring food for a crowd. I find I make simple things that everyone can add to or reconfigure as they like, which isn't very exciting. It is fun when people have time and we cook together, but I'd really just rather eat your food given the choice! 😁 I am quite sure I am not alone! Thank you for inspiring us!

I love every bit of this! Today's NSV was realizing that, like you, I can share clothing with a couple of tiny 20 year olds. 🙂

I look forward to seeing NSVs. For now I was encouraged by reading the NSVs of others. Seeing a few ounces off daily is my best reward for right now.
