Just my humble opinion: (lets get back to what we are here for). Many of the posts on here have turned into many people trying to assemble plates that would qualify on a Gordon Ramsey tv show with photo filters etc.. Why? This is not a cooking competition and relying on plating. Many of my meals are not beyond a bowl of beans and some veggies. I can cook lots of cuisines and can cook circles around most. 20+ years in the restaurant business.

As a former fine dining restaurant owner i understand plating and how it is used to up prices and to get people to return. It is also more pleasurable to eat something that looks good so a smaller portion satisfies. It saves on restaurant food costs. The concept that if it looks good a smaller portion satisfies helps control portions. I get it i used to calculate food costs. I have suggested on here in the past to make your food look good to eat less. You also eat with your eyes and nose. Remember
You do not need to sell what you cook.

I put salads often in a pretty antique bowl because i have them and like them -no particular arrangement. I grab a plate or bowl that doesn't clash with my food, white or my clear antique set if it clashes with my colored sets. Simple.. I have some cheap dollar tree colored sets simply because i liked them and they were cheap. I'm a quilter so colors matter to me. A smaller plate helps with portions.

I know how to turn veggies into flowers etc. And make food look picture perfect amazing. i could out cook our chef except really high volume but could run the kitchen with my cooks without him. Handled all the banquets and cooked specialty dishes for some of them. I do know how to do a lot with food. I honestly do not spend my time doing decorated dishes, i have other things to do. Maybe for a special occasions, however my family would prefer to scoop out what they want from a slow cooker keeping something hot. 🤔i cook for me now. Those restaurant days and stresses of "perfect food " are long gone.

The important thing is what you eat and your exercise.

To me , it’s a form of art. The food, the colors, the setting and the presentation. I don’t do it well but I want to improve. Because when the eye beholds something beautiful, it’s that much better. If something doesn’t looks appetizing, I won’t eat it. Also textures are important to me, Don’t like seeing slop or eating slop. Honestly anyone can post anything they like their way. It’s cute when somebody comes up with a cute and creative combination. Just my humble opinion. Hope you have a wonderful day🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️

I like the pretty plates. But it's not something I'd ever do....#1. I'm lazy. #2. I'm too damn hungry to waste time arranging my plate. 😁

I'm on the fence.. at one point I was trying to plate my meals worthy of a photo shoot... And in doing so wanted to show it off and this was my only outlet (living, dining alone). AND a large part of that WAS learning and sharing " hey, this is good food and doesn't take that long to make. I also went thru a phase inspired by Keyten where I would include the nutritional data with the meal.

I noticed exercise isn’t talked about much here-if at all. More-so of quality(very sparse)/quantity(overwhelming majority) of food BUT I tend to agree with you on this stance. However like you said, it’s their journal so they can plate and take as many pictures as they want, they may put the same kind of energy and time into their workouts as well. I try not to encourage bickering and stances on forums because there’s more negativity than edifying posts typically - hence this being the only “social media” I have lol

But after a while I found I was eating more than my hunger called for because I'd made such a big deal outta the dish with the plating and photography. Then again, just tossing food onto a plate with little thought can lead me to over eat if it didn't seem special. So in the end... I'm on the fence. I enjoy browsing the pretty photos but have accepted that personally I'd rather devote that plating & photo time elsewhere.

I admire the patience of people who make pretty plates... a lot of my food does not even make the plate. Pot to mouth..

I like food. My plates are generally plentiful and full of nutrients which is my health goal. Plating and pretty plates..... not me. I find inspiration in the food posts of others in how the taste sensations all come together. Someone many months ago shared an avocado and grapefruit salad. Something I never thought of but something I now enjoy. My plate is not like that but has my own little twist. Power on !

All I know is when I see the food pictures I have food envy. My dishes rarely get photographed. Like me they are more functional than pretty. 🤣 In reading the posts, I did not know that making the food pretty makes you eat less. I would have thought the opposite. I have also read that a red plate is good and subconsciously we are conditioned to see red as stop. So I've considered buy a red plate but never pulled the trigger. I felt weird about going out and buying one or 2 red dishes. But if anyone can tell me it's helped them then I'm in!

This is interesting. Wholefoodnut said, "Let's get back to what we're here for." And now we have dozens of posts about Pictures of Food. Is that really what we're here for? Well, as long as we're on the topic, I'll chime in. I'm a vegetarian so I enjoy the photos of fruits, vegetables, grains, etc. (Especially when I can tell what it is.) But I do not like seeing pictures of chopped up pieces of dead animals. That turns my stomach and makes me sad because I know what that animal had to endure before being slaughtered for someone's meal. Now ... can we get back to what we're here for??? Ways of eating perhaps? Thank you. BTW, why do some of the photos appear to be magnified beyond recognition?

I'm not vegetarian but looking at the pictures on here do sort of make me hungry, though they are good recipe ideas. I've found that when I'm on here I sometimes eat a little more than I should because I grab an apple or something when I'm not even hungry, just because I'm looking at food. That's not really the best for your body; you should eat when you are hungry and occasionally have popcorn during a movie or something, but stick to about three meals a day and only two or three light and nutrient-dense snacks. You shouldn't be running for the kitchen whenever you scroll by a picture of your favorite meal.

I enjoy seeing the pictures because it tells me that folks are being mindful of what they are eating and are trying to make the food enjoyable for them. What works for one may not work for another. If something works for you, I support you all the way! Kindness matters so much these days.

I appreciate the pictures. As I have said before, I have gotten inspiration from other people's food combinations and making a decision on what I might like to fix myself for that night. I generally don't take pictures of my own because I don't take the time to do so. I'm in a hurry to start eating when I'm finished preparing! Each to their own. I don't think if it like a competition.

I have never, EVER taken a picture of anything I ate except my wedding cake. It happens on Facebook and other venues too. I think it’s so funny.

Way to toot you own horn over and over! 😂 What’s the point of this post? I am shocked at all the haters and negative posts I’ve seen on FS since joining? We are all trying to do this positive thing in our lives, shouldn’t that be the focus? BTW...I work in restaurant that was recently nominated for and won a James Beard award and we frequently photograph our food!

Johanne I remember when it first became the thing to post food pics on social media. It was more than funny. I do see the value for some members taking food pics when it becomes part of their "food and meal journal" and they look back on meals kind of like a recipe book. I have tons of recipe books from the past but I only reference mostly for baking when exact measurements become important. Most of my meals are off the cuff and come together based on what I have in my kitchen.

Also what is camera all about then?

No rules, najwa. You do whatever you need to to succeed. If you want to post food, then do it. We all have our opinions of what we'd like to see on the app. Different strokes for different folks. Just do you! 💪🏼❤️
