Sadness. Our local gym closed today without notice (I went there the last two days) until March 31st. Of course, I understand why, but that wonderful gym has been pivotal in my weight-loss.

I do have small weights at home, but I have a foot injury that makes it necessary to hold on to the treadmill to steady myself. Even a cane or staff doesn’t stabilize me enough to walk far. It stresses the foot too much.

Your gym is probably going to be closed for far longer that a few days.

Yes, and that sucks because I need the equipment to lose weight. I’m disabled and need stable equipment to help me along. Reducing calories just doesn’t cut it for me. 😕

Do not even think that your weight loss is totally dependent on a GYM. it is not. It is dependent on your desire to get it done and to be creative with other means of staying physically active and managing an exercise routine at home. It now may mean being very diligent with the way you eat, fewer “oops” events and concentrating on the nutritional value of your foods. I cannot stress enough the value of proper nutrition in times like this. Your body and mind are stressed to the max and needs and deserves the best nutritional support you can manage. Rethink your goal if necessary. Concentrate less on big weight losses and more on not losing ground and gaining weight during this sobering time. This is real life— this is what you have to learn to do long term, manage your feelings, and fears and not let them destroy your important goals.

Walnut Keeper - I just posted a photo of my ankle weights. I have relied on them a lot since my knees quit cooperating. Have had right ankle issues since I was 17. You can use soup cans and gallon jugs. Can you stand in one spot? Get in pushup position? Do you have a sturdy pole, like a closet rod or pipe?

Uh... I don’t have any fears about what’s happening, my eating is dependent on my income, which is under $800 per month, and the gym equipment is ideal for disabled people like me. My spine and foot do not give me the stability to move normally. I’m limited physically on what I can do at home.

YouTube has a lot of exercise videos. Watch them all the way through first to see if they fit what you are able to do.

Walnut- It sounds like you have been using the treadmill at the gym and walking for exercise ? I also have bad ankles and understand the concern to be stable.. Find a place in your home where you can stabilize yourself and feel secure ( like the kitchen counter and solid chair back, or the corner of a kitchen where maybe two counters connect) and feel secure and try just walking / marching in place. All the best to you.
