I think that's weird. I am on the Fat Smash Diet, but haven't read the Extreme Fat Smash book. In the normal Fat Smash Diet, phase I is called Detox. Does the Extreme Fat Smash Diet have phases like that? 

There are 2 different Fat Smash forums....the regular Fat Smash Diet and the Extreme Fat Smash. Both work, but I had way more success on the Fat Smash, I am guessing due to the detox phase, but they both work. I have lost on both. There are a lot of differences so it just really depends on what you are comfortable with. Check both of them out and see which one works best for you and your eating habits. The Fat Smash has 4 phases and is a 90 day program...the Extreme does not have phases it only has weeks and if I remember correctly it is a 4 week program. Just do which ever one works best for you, FSD tells you what kinds of foods you can and can't eat, where as the EFS tells you exactly what to eat on that particular day and also allows you to have snacks. Either way you can't lose if you stick with it! Good luck to you! 

Extreme Fat Smash gives you more choices(snacks) and doesn't have a detox phase. Both are good. The detox phase is a little more constricting and, therefore, I think you loose more weight at the beginning. 

The Extreme does Cycles - not Phases and it tells you exactly what you are to eat each day. I'm doing this one right now and I really enjoy it. During Cycle 1 I had lost 5-6 lbs. It does work and you feel like you are eating all the time.
