I grew up eating pinto beans with arroz con pollo, pinto beans with carne guisada, pinto beans with fajitas, pretty much pinto beans with everything we ate. Now that I’m older I only make frijoles a la charra when I bbq.

That sounds way better than how we ate it. Sometimes my mom added a meat and some fresh garden veggies on the side, like cucumbers and tomatoes. My grandparents usually just did the beans and corn bread. That how they gre up eating. No money.

3cami, my grandparents grew sugarcane and took it to the mill to have syrup made, so it was cane syrup, which is a strong syrup, and we ate it with fresh cream or homemade butter. The cornbread itself was not sweet.

No, never knew what beans were, until I was an adult. I grew up roast beef, steak, potatoes and corn. Mid west farmers.

Pinto's I could deal with growing up. I wouldn't eat Lima beans, though.

My grandma would also make a pan of biscuits with sliced tomatoes and always a jar of Dukes mayonnaise on the table for tomato biscuits. I miss that and her.

OMG! I forgot about the tomato biscuits. My mamaw didn't have a particular mayo she used but my mom only uses JFG. Lol
