Just over a week ago, I got my hair cut....dramatically short. Actually, the cut that you see in my profile pic. Before, it was about shoulder length, will some layers. I didn't want to take a picture of myself with that do, because I was trying to grow out my experiment with dying my hair.
I started getting a few grey hairs here and there when I was 18. By the time I was 30, I had streaks of grey. I didn't mind it, although a few times, I was convinced to try to dye it, and tried it but never liked it. But about 6 months ago I had one of those moments when I caught a quick glimpse of my reflection, and was shocked at how much grey I had. Whoa! The grey/white was outnumbering the dark hair. It made me look older than I felt. So I dyed it. And promptly hated it. But I wanted to believe that I would eventually come to like it better. Nope. I kept with it for a few months, but then decided I hated it. I started to let it grow out, but then I was getting the skunk look, with the white stripe down the center of my head. Not a look anyone can love. Finally I decided I had enough. I would cut it short, and go back as far as I could, to my natural color.
You should have seen the look of panic on the woman at the salon when I told her what I wanted. I assured her that if I didn't like it, I would not blame her. This one was on me. It was a shock at first, but I have come to love it. It is SO easy to take care of. A quick tousle of my hair in the morning, and I'm good to go. And, my husband, who is not one who has compliments spilling off his tongue with any great regularity told me it makes me look younger and thinner! Could he have said anything better? How could I do anything but love it! And it shows off my earrings. :)
So, I got here kind of accidentally, but I am loving it. It is funny how things work out that way sometimes.
Thankful for the rain and the cooler weather. A bountiful collection of eggs, veggies and herbs from the CSA today. A delicious salad made from goodies from the CSA. My new look!
