Today is my first day of IF (Intermittent Fasting). Something I have been thinking about for a while but watching a Horizon programme last night about IF and CR (Calorie Restriction) and how it improves many markers for health such as fasting blood glucose, weight, cholesterol, triglycerides etc, I have decided today is the day to start. Also they mentioned a growth hormone that IGF, that speeds up ageing but which is reduced by IF or CR.
They looked at a group of people who practice CRON (Calorie Restriction, Nutrient Dense) and who have almost zero chance of developing heart disease or diabetes. Interested, I checked them out on the web and discovered that their daily calorie intake is around 1800 per day - this also happens to be about the same amount of calories that I have per day on my LCHF (Low Carb High Fat diet). The main difference I see is that the CRON's are avoiding saturated fat though I would say their diet also looks to be fairly low in carbohydrate with the carbs coming from fruit and veg.
So anyways, day one of IF. I have skipped breakfast and will have a late lunch. My hope is to lose a bit more body fat and maybe get my weight down to 57kg (9 st). I am close to my ideal weight but their is still a bit of excess fat around. I also hope that through exercise I can increase my lean muscle. My goal - to have a body like an Olympic Athlete! Seems like a big dream but I believe I CAN DO IT!!!
