Had a GREAT visit with my Cardiologist. I last saw him 6 months ago, when I was at my peak weight. He was rather unhappy with me at the time and you could tell that he really didn't expect much better from me in the future. At that time, I really didn't expect much better from me either. I was in my "accept me as I am" phase (see my profile).
Then 4 months ago, I started KETO. Well, you all know the story from there. In those 4 months, I've lost almost 40lbs, dropped two diabetes medications, got my A1C under control, and all my blood work looks great. I literally bounce when I walk now because I have so much energy, my hair and skin look healthier, and I'm just all around in better condition. He was amazed. He usually walks in, shakes my hand, then starts charting on the computer. When he got to my current weight, he stopped, looked at me, grinned and walked over to give me a high five! He said he was so proud of me and that I had just added years onto my life. Of course, he asked what I was doing to be so successful and I told him that I was on Keto. I was prepared for a lecture on CICO or EL/MM but he just said, "That's fantastic! Well, it's certainly working for you. I wish all my patients had your motivation!"
I gotta tell ya... the validation felt really good. I mean really, really good. I have actually been looking forward to this visit because I knew that he had mentally given up on doing any more for me than keeping me alive, since I refused to be compliant with diet and exercise. I had envisioned this visit going about like it did. I wanted his approval and I got it. Yay for the NSV!
